The Voices of Praise and the Division Street Band started in December 1999, as a choir and musical ensemble, to provide worship for the Salem Baptist Church of Jenkintown's Contemporary worship services.

The Voices of Praise and the Division Street Band has performed at Keswick Theatre, participated for several years in the annual Jenkintown Jazz Festival and in Cheltenham Township's Summer Concerts in the Park. The Voices of Praise also performed "Live" with Peabo Bryson, Christopher Cross, Irene Cara and Sheena Easton and has also ministered to various churches in Philadelphia and Montgomery County.

Presently, the choir sings every 4th Sunday at the 11:00 a.m. contemporary worship services at Salem and has a musical repertoire of contemporary and traditional gospel music. This ministry has grown to more than 60 active members who lift up the name of Jesus through song, worship and praise and to seek the lost for Christ.

No Title - Deacon Zone List

Deacons & Deaconess's Zone List

SALEM FAMILY . . . A Zone List has been created to help us know how to contact you and to give you a means of knowing who to contact when you need prayer or want to talk to someone; when you are sick; when you or your family is in the hospital; when you hvae death in your family or someone you care for; when you need services from the Church; or when you need to know where to get help.

What is a Zone List?

The Zone List is a geographical zip code representation of the Salem Members and the Deacons and Deaconess' Teams assigned to serve the Church Families.

How Does the Zone List Work?

Families members of the Church are automatically assigned to a Team of Deacons and Deaconess who care for them. The Deacons and Deaconesses are grouped by Zones. A zone consist of a group of zip codes. Your zip code determines the zone you are assigned. There are seven (7) Zones, defined as Zone 1 through Zone 7.

How do I find my Zone and Zone Team?

The Zone List is defined in a Table. The table contains two primary columns. The first column contains the Zone Number (1 -7) at the top. The zip codes and the Area names associated with the zip codes in that Zone are below the Zone Number (i.e Wyncote 19095). Search through the list until you locate your zip code or the name of your area. The names and telephone numbers of your Deacons and Deaconess' Team are listed in the second column located directly across from the Zone Number column. Please feel free to contact your Team whenever you need them.

What if your zip code does not appear in a Zone? If your zip code does not appear in one of the zones or your zip code is out of state and is not listed, please contact the Chairperson of the Deacon or Deaconess Board to have the zone list updated: The Chairperson of the Deacon Board is Deacon Joseph Jones (215.572.0245). The Chairperson of the Deaconess Board is Deaconess Betty Cannon (215.572.5707).

What if my address and/or my telephone number changes, or my family plans to be away for an extended period of time?

Zone Leaders (a Deacon & a Deaconess) has been assigned to each zone. Please contact them to have your information updated. If you can not reach them, please contact any member of your Zone Team or the Church Office. The number in the Church Office is 215 884 7664. DEACON ZONE LISTSymbols & Notations

Biblical History Behind The Deacon's Mission

Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a complaint against the Hebrews by the Hellenists, because their widows were neglected in the daily distribution. Then the twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, it is not desirable that we should leave the word of God and serve tables. Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business
Acts 6:1-3

Duties of a Deacon
Deacons strive to serve the needs of the congregation and provide assistance to the pastor. Deacons also serve in sensitive areas within the church.

The Ordained Deacon serves in:
Communion Service
Baptismal Service
Funerals
Ordination Services

Scripture For The Month
"A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. The tongue of the wise uses knowledge rightly, but the mouth of a fool pours forth foolishness."
Proverbs 15:1-2

Salem Bible Institute Courses - SBI Spring Semester

The Salem Bible Institute Program is poised and directed towards reaching out and spreading the truth of the Gospel message to all that will hear it or receive it. Our goal is to study and to teach the Word so that all are equipped as Christians, who need not be afraid, rightly dividing the word of truth.

God is: He is the Divine Spirit who has Spirit. He is three persons yet one God.

The Bible is the inerrant word of God given through divine revelation by the Holy Spirit. This is so of the Old Testament as well as the New Testament.

Jesus Christ is the second person of the Holy Trinity and is therefore God Himself. He took on human attributes. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of a virgin. He died on the cross as a living sacrifice for our sins; He rose from the dead on the third day in the same body and ascended into Heaven in that glorified body and abides there at the right hand of the Father to intercede for believers. He will come again to reign on earth and to judge the quick and the dead.

The Salem Bible Institute meets: Tuesdays (10:30am & 6:45pm)

This year, as a scout some of the things your child will enjoy will include: conducting experiments, tying ropes, learning about safety, staying healthy and playing an important part in their community. Each meeting will include a valuable lesson that will inspire the scout to practice their core values.

We would like for you to invite others to become Cub Scouts as well. This organization is for boys who are in the first through fifth grades (or are 7, 8, 9 and 10 years old). Please let them know that they are welcome to join and we are looking forward to having them.

The Wm. J. Lucas Library has been in operation for nearly fifty years. Our mission is and has always been to promote and encourage reading as a means of strengthening Christian Education, self awareness and strong family and human relationships. The library is open on Wednesday afternoons and on Sundays after each service, and is located in the lower level of the Robert Johnson Smith education building.

Our Library contains books and periodicals that focus on the African American Experience including social, political and educational issues. We include Childrens books, teenage and religious themes. We are a lending library and allow books to be borrowed for a two week period if you are a member of the Salem Baptist Church. Reference books are also a part of our offering but are not to be circulated.

We accept cash gifts in the form of memorials in honor of and for special materials. We reserve the right to purchase suitable materials when no special designation is given. Currently our books number about two thousand (2000) volumes.

LIBRARY NEWS… - Make a visit to our Library as part of your Family Day celebration. We will have our annual Vacation Book Sale on Family Day, June 26th in the Library. All those great books you did not have time to read last winter are now out in paperback, perfect for traveling. We will be selling all books at our cost. As always, we will have books to suit all family members. WE look forward to seeing you.
